Planting Seeds of Purpose at Shemesh Farms

By Adam Grant, Grant Shenon, APLC

This past weekend, my wife and I had the privilege of volunteering alongside a community of incredible individuals at Shemesh Farms, a one-of-a-kind social enterprise nestled in the hills of Malibu. What began as a peaceful afternoon among friends quickly became a powerful reminder of the impact compassion and inclusion can have when nurtured with care.

At Shemesh Farms, the soil is only part of what grows. This vibrant organization offers neurodiverse young adults a unique opportunity to cultivate herbs, craft small-batch products, and build meaningful employment in a safe, empowering environment. Every harvest supports a deeper mission: dignity, connection, and purposeful work for individuals who are too often left behind by traditional employment pathways.

We spent the day planting, harvesting, and listening—both to the earth and to the stories of those who’ve found belonging at the farm. There was laughter, learning, and the simple joy of getting our hands a little dirty in service of something greater than ourselves.

Shemesh Farms doesn’t just grow herbs—it grows confidence, community, and possibility. As someone who believes deeply in justice and equity, I was moved by how seamlessly this organization blends sustainability, inclusion, and entrepreneurship into a single model of hope.

At Grant Shenon, APLC, we often talk about justice in terms of laws and rights. But justice also lives in everyday acts of generosity—like offering someone a job that gives them purpose, or creating space where every voice matters. Supporting Shemesh Farms aligns with our belief that dignity and opportunity are not privileges, but rights that everyone deserves access to.

To our clients, colleagues, and friends: we invite you to learn more about Shemesh Farms and consider supporting their mission. Whether through volunteering, spreading awareness, or purchasing one of their beautifully packaged products, your involvement helps plant seeds that will continue to grow for years to come.

Let’s keep cultivating kindness, purpose, and inclusion—together.
